Because of Helen Adams Hamilton's foresight and generosity, youth-oriented charitable causes have received over $200,000.
Helen's interest in helping kids thrived throughout her lifetime. Her family owned a hotel in Meade, Kansas, and they helped local children on a daily basis. According to Helen's daughter, Suzanne Hamilton, "Every day there were a couple of children who came by the hotel after school and received a meal."
Helen and her husband helped establish the St. Francis Boy's Home in Salina and, because of her belief in education for all children, Helen started two scholarships at HCC - one each in honor of her sister and her husband.
With assistance from John Schmidt, her professional advisor, Helen decided that a charitable lead trust would best serve her estate plan goals. This type of trust ensures many years of annual support for charity while preserving the invested principal for heirs. John kenw Helen well. He said, "She wanted to give people the opportunity to grow, and continues to do this by leaving a legacy at the Community Foundation." Because of that decision she made in 1999, the Helen Adams Hamilton Endowed Fund continues to provide significant support for local organizations such as Head Start, St. Francis Community Services and Boys & Girls Club.
By establishing her fund at the Hutchinson Community Foundation, Helen's charitable interests will be reflected in Reno County for years to come.
