![]() Part of our mission is to "provide leadership on key community issues." We work to bring individuals and groups together around issues pressing our county, and we work in a variety of ways – sometimes as a funder, but more often as a catalyst, partner, nonpartisan convener and/or knowledge broker. From the Emergency Services Fund developed to combat the effects of the recent economic downturn to the Break the Mold collaboration of area school districts, the Hutchinson Community Foundation has been there to serve as a leader and a collaborator in Reno County, and it will continue to do so to ensure that tomorrow will be even better than today. The Hutchinson Community Foundation, in collaboration with the Kansas Health Foundation, is pleased to offer a grant opportunity to Reno County Center and Home-based Child Care Providers to enable child care professionals to increase children’s daily consumption of fruits and vegetables and or participation in active play. Child Care Centers are eligible to apply for up to $1,000 in funding; Family/Home-based Centers are eligible to apply for up to $500 in funding. This mini-grant competition is made possible by funding provided by the Kansas Health Foundation. Awards are intended to strategically modify the culture of Hutchinson and Reno County to increase healthy eating and active living among residents. The Youth Philanthropy Council of the Hutchinson Community Foundation announces the availability of grant funds to support projects benefiting youth in Reno County. Grant requests up to $750 will be considered. The formation of the Boys and Girls Club, the initial planning stages of Kansas Underground Salt Museum, the restoration of the Fox Theatre, Interfaith Housing’s Individual Development Accounts, the Haven Wellness Center, the Plevna Tornado Siren, and an unprecedented collaboration among the Buhler, Hutchinson, and Catholic school systems. While this list may seem eclectic, there is one thing that connects them all – they are just a few of the highlights from the Fund for Hutchinson. Truly transforming Reno County, the Fund for Hutchinson is the unrestricted grantmaking arm of the Hutchinson Community Foundation. The application process represents the one time of year that the Foundation representatives – Board members, community representatives, and staff – hear directly from the community about innovative solutions and critical needs in our communities and select programs to support as they move forward with their work. Some of the grants are small but mighty while others are large and far-reaching. Each, though, represents an innovative approach or collaboration; a new efficiency for an established organization; a critical need that requires “just in time” funding, or an opportunity that needs just that bit of local support to leverage great resources for our community.
