Announcing New Grant Opportunity - Make It Greater Grants

Hutchinson Community Foundation is excited to announce a new grant opportunity! Make it Greater grants are open to Reno County residents and organizations who have great ideas for bringing community members together on projects that spark community spirit and pride, build social capital and create opportunities for positive changes that make our county a healthier and happier place to live.

In 2014 and 2015, the Community Foundation hosted Envision Hutch and the Unconference, Those events provided people of all ages an opportunity to share hopes and visions for our communities and then join together with those who had shared passions. Groups generated ideas for experiments that could demonstrate the need for permanent changes in the community and were awarded small grants to carry out their ideas. What did we learn from those experiments? We learned that when groups of people with a common goal and a shared love for their community come together, great things can happen! As an example, a pop-up playground at George Pyle Park demonstrated a need and sparked a spirit of community which resulted in a larger grant and hundreds of volunteers coming together with City workers to install permanent playground equipment!

Make it Greater grants are small grants that can make a big difference in how we feel about our communities. Grants are expected to range from $250 to $2,500, and funds will come from the Fund for Hutchinson, which is our unrestricted community fund for the changing needs of Reno County. Below are photos of a variety of projects that fit with the spirit of Make it Greater grants and may prompt ideas that will bring people together in a spirit of community in your neighborhood or town.

The grant cycle for 2017 is now closed, but check back in December for 2018 grant application forms and guidelines.

Questions should be directed to Program Officer, Kari Mailloux at 620-663-5293.
